Baseball Hall of Fame Visit

On Thursday of last week we went to the Baseball Hall of Fame while at Cooperstown.  I had a request for certain pictures from a co-worker who was totally jealous of my opportunity to go here.  So I took lots of pictures!  I will share some with you.

The Big Apple

So then after the week at Cooperstown, there was a couple of days in NYC.  Jamie was in no mood to drive in the city and therefore, that was a good idea.  They are crazy drivers, honking at one another all day long.  Very annoying.  The taxi drivers drive in and out of the lanes with just inches to spare from the next car.  I am so glad that Jamie wasn't driving.  This is no easy thing to do.  She drove as far as La Guardia airport where we ditched the rental car, a Ford Edge, an SUV.  It was not the car she had requested because that one held about 1 1/2 pieces of luggage.  So unless we wanted to sit on the roof of the car, it wasn't going to work for us.  Although we did try to force a few things in there.  No, it was not a possibility.

Once we got to La Guardia, the Hertz shuttle took us to our airporter transport.  I had thought that this would be the only transportation and would take us to our hotel...:( Not so...it stops at Grand Central Station, outside on the street where we had to wait for a different shuttle to take us to the Hotel.  May I add that it was just pouring rain, non stop all day, which is why the closing ceremonies at Cooperstown were canceled.  Not nice...I had hoped to add to my already huge picture collection.  (I took over 1500 photos!)  Anyway even with umbrellas and jackets we were drenched to the skin.  No other way to put it.  And it wasn't warm.  So we waited and eventually the smaller shuttle came and we loaded up the luggage, yet again and climbed in.  I was on the back row with two Minnesota ladies, one who had retired from teaching the day before.  This was her big after retirement trip.  The planned the whole thing just 2 days before they left.  Wow.  I couldn't do that.  Anyway, our hotel was the Club quarters at Rockefeller Center.  It was next door to a club called Johnny Utah's.  So maybe it was appropriate for us???  Anyway, I think as we walked in we looked like a bunch of drowned rats.  Definitely, and slightly aggravated ones at that.  So we settled in, changed, cleaned up and hit the town running.  It wasn't too much fun because of the rain.  People were like a sea of umbrellas.  Right after we returned to our room, on the TV they showed a car accident were we had just been where a car hit some pedestrians and it was really a bad accident.  I think the baby was hit while in a baby stroller and was fighting for her life.  So sad. 

While we were out, we ate at a restaurant where they sing and entertain you while eating.  It was fun.  I think Tyson's hamburger was too big to fit in his mouth.  It was funny.  Anyway, that was the first day in NYC.

The next morning Ty, Jay and I went to the NBC Studios for a tour.  No pics allowed in the tour.  But at the end the tour person asked for 2 volunteers, of which one was Jamie and a man we don't know named TJ.  Well, they were asked to pretend to be an anchor person and weather person.  Jamie was an anchor person.  They taped it and we also had our pictures taken.  They are in copywritten so I don't know if I can post them or not...so better not.  But Jamie was the anchor and he was the weatherman.  It was really fun and we got a DVD of the event.  Before going, Jamie and Ty stopped at the bakery across the street and had a quick breakfast.

The Team-Lehi Scorchers!

Here is their picture that is posted in the Little League Hall of Fame.  They got a sapphire ring.  Unfortunately, there was no closing ceremony because of the heavy rain that would not let up.  It was to have been held in the Little Majors field and it is of course, an outdoor facility.

Here they are below with their favorite umpire, Sam, from Pleasant Grove.  He was very helpful in getting back Tyson's Mile-Hi Umpire pin that he had traded away....It turned out to be a very rare pin, with only 20 or so made.  I am glad he got it back.  We were so sad because he had been given this pin as an earned pin for the best attitude, voted on by the players on his team.  He inadvertently traded it and gave us all ulcers trying to find out how to get it back.  All is well!

Let the Games Begin!

First, just a little note, blogger is having issues and I am having problems editing.  Therefore, you will see some posts that are not coming up as I had planned.  Just can't change them.  It seems to be an issue with pictures.  I am now switching to Firefox and hope it will help a little.  I don't want to spend three weeks blogging about 2 weeks of events.  A bit frustrating.  So here are pics of the games.  To make a long story short, out of 7 games, they won only one.  It was their 2nd game and they always held their own.  And sometimes were a bit discouraged, but they kept on going and going.  We were lucky, no injuries, at least not that I noticed.  So that was good.  They also placed us with the highest ranking teams.  I have to tell you there were some "baseball academies" there... and they bragged it up about how good they were and how much bigger they were.  And yes, they were.  They pulled out the  best players in their state.  Our team was a local team, nothing liked these stacked teams that we played.  But we held our own!
