Great Grandpa Nishimoto headed for Heaven.

Arthur K. Nishimoto

August 28. 1923-Jan. 7, 2017

Well, although not the same year of death as my own father, yet within less than 1 year's time, both Spencer's and my father have passed.  So for my kids, both grandfathers, and my grandkid's, both of their remaining great grandfathers.  So needless to say, it's been one of those years.  Spencer's dad lived to be 93 years old.  I think I posted earlier of the last visit we had with him back in October.  It was Spencer, Tyson and myself as we were headed to St. George for Ty's baseball tournament.  We had planned to go see the local sights of St. George, but just before heading there, we received a call from Spencer's brother saying his father was not doing well.  It was disappointing not to continue with our plans, but we are glad that we went to see him "one last time".

The fact that it was January made things a bit hard for us as the weather report was grim, to say the least.  So we paid heed to the forcast and left a day earlier than planned and spent a night in St. George.  It turned out to be a wise decision as there was lots and lots of snow on Thursday.

The funeral was on Jan. 20, nearly 2 weeks after he passed.  So this was a bit of time in between, but I guess that was to make sure those who wanted to attend would have the opportunity to make arrangements to do so.  So below are some pictures from the last few days.

The above are the pages from his program.  Below are the pages of his life sketch.

Now for some pictures I took whenever I saw a photo opp!

Below Eleanor Kailiponi and Brecklyn Hofheins.  Eleanor is a granddaughter and Brecklyn a Great granddaughter.

I think Jamie is getting famous for her funeral displays.  She has done several now!

We were the only family that took pictures at the casket, I noticed.  So I took some random ones.  This is Julie Humphreys and daughter Pearl.
The Nishimoto siblings, Cas, Erin, Spencer, Ian and Wells.

The interment was at the Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Boulder, NV.  It was horrible weather, cold wet and windy.

The Relief Society made a nice luncheon and we were very hungry!

After the luncheon we went to the hotel for awhile, then returned to the house and spent time with family members.

Jamie and family went home that same night and we left the next morning to this:  a snowstorm.  Ugh.  not fun to drive in.

Glad we missed the excitement here!
So Spencer wanted a couple things as inheritance pieces from his dad.  And this was one of them, the Congressional Medal of Honor received for participation in the 442nd Infantry Regiment.
And so this ends my funeral post.  It was nice to get together with family again and so there may not be quite so many opportunities again.  But we are glad for the times we have, even when sad times.
